Salary Range: $20.00 per hour, subject to increase based on experience. This position includes benefits.
Experience: Job related experience is required.
Education: College and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.
Certificates: Valid Driver’s License; A+ Certification preferred; Network+ Certification preferred.
Continuing Educ./Training: Attend training as requested by the Director of Technology.
Clearances: Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, paid for by the applicant.
The job of Technology Support Specialist is done for the purpose/s of installing and maintaining computer operating systems, application software and network subsystems to meet the technology needs of the district; providing technical support to site administrators and resolving district or school site operational issues.
This job reports to the Director of Technology.
Essential Functions
- Analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs computers, peripherals, network equipment, hardware and software for the purpose of maintaining computers and computer network equipment in a safe and functional operating condition.
- Participates in meetings and training sessions as assigned for the purpose of receiving and/or dispersing information related to the effective and efficient functioning of department resources.
- Evaluates, installs, and/or maintains department resources as assigned for the purpose of ensuring that hardware and software meets department and district standards for legal, effective, efficient and secure use.
- Maintains server and network resources (e.g. active directory, switches, routers, etc.) as directed by the network administrator for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain systems.
- Interacts with support vendors and outside parties as needed for the purpose of ensuring that assigned department resources are maintained in an effective and efficient manner.
- Maintains a wide variety of processes (e.g. logs, filters, accounts, upgrades, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining security and/or identifying connection problems.
- Maintains a wide variety of manual and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
- Provides input into the planning and implementation of hardware, software and technology plans as assigned for the purpose of assisting department and district administration in determining appropriate courses of action as related to the effective and efficient functioning of department resources.
- Responds to inquires from staff concerning problems related to the functioning of department resources (e.g. computers, printers, servers, network hardware and software, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that department resources in assigned areas are functioning in a manner which allows for appropriate, effective, efficient and secure usage.
- Sets up and installs a variety of computer, presentation, peripheral and network equipment (e.g. computers, printers, PDAs, switches, UPS, print servers, laptops, LCD projectors, etc.) for the purpose of supporting district operations.
- Transports a variety of items as assigned (e.g. computers, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site or transporting equipment for repair.
- Troubleshoot issues with hardware and/or software applications as assigned for the purpose of executing repairs and/or determining appropriate actions needed to maintain computer and/or network operations.
- Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating equipment used in network design and maintenance; updating and/or operating standard office equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: computer hardware and software; safety practices and procedures; current generation operating systems; networking software; and server operating systems.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating technical information to non-technical audiences; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and developing effective working relationships.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
