Our Mission:
Chestnuthill Township aims to provide quality municipal services to its residents and businesses in an efficient, effective, and economically responsible manner, striving to provide and maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable place to live and do business.
Our History:
Founded on September 20th, 1763, in the time before the chestnut blight of 1900, Chestnuthill was named for an abundance of chestnut trees which filled the area’s rolling hills. Historically, farming has been our main industry, and the supporting services were established to serve the needs of these residents. As the Township continues to grow, farming still remains an important part of the community; however, businesses have developed to meet the needs of a growing population. Chestnuthill Township is located in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, and is the second largest township in the County, with a population of 17,156 residents and a total landmass of 37.6 square miles. In addition, the Township Road Department maintains 155 miles of roadway, making road maintenance a significant focus. Since Chestnuthill’s inception, the Township has been focused on providing quality municipal services to its residents. The Township is governed by three locally elected Supervisors. Supervisor meetings are held every 1st Tuesday and 3rd Tuesday (when needed) of the month at the Municipal Building (271 Route 715, Brodheadsville, PA) in order to provide open communication and transparency.
