Part-Time Properties Maintenance Technician
Current Hourly Pay Range: $20.94 - $27.81 Teamsters Level 2 (depending upon qualifications)
The City of Hudson is accepting applications for the position of Properties Maintenance Technician to perform semi-skilled labor and limited equipment duties within the Public Works Department. Each position in this class may perform and/or assist in the operational tasks of a single functional area or multiple functional areas within the department. There are currently two (2) vacancies in each of the following divisions: Parks, and Cemetery Division.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class. Allocation of positions to this class will be determined on the amount of time spent in performing the primary duties.)
- Provides semi-skilled labor and limited equipment duties for the operations of the Public Works Dept., Parks or other operational division’s such as street system & right-of way tasks, storm water system tasks, sanitary sewer system tasks, and water system tasks. Performs other related work as required.
- Drives truck for transporting fill materials, berming operations, plowing snow, ice removal and spreading salt.
- Operates tractors for mowing and any other motorized equipment as may be assigned that is not complex in nature and is listed as equipment assigned to this class.
- Operates front end loader for loading salt trucks.
- Operates small power mowers and string trimmers, and uses rakes, shovels and other hand tools in the maintenance of parks, cemeteries or golf course grounds.
- Cuts grass and weeds; trims and edges around trees, curbs, sidewalks, parking lots, buildings and other facilities; picks up and removes trimmings; cleans work-site areas; rakes and cleans bunkers and
grounds. - Patrols grounds and removes rocks, debris and other hazardous objects; picks up paper, cans, bottles and other litter and places in proper trash and recycling containers.
- Assists in planting flowers and shrubs, and laying sod; weeds and maintains flower beds; waters flowers, plants and grass.
- May assist with the various water distribution and sanitary sewer collection maintenance programs.
- Installs, repairs and maintains metering system.
- Makes daily inspection of assigned equipment, performs preventative maintenance and reports major maintenance needs and mechanical problems.
- Works closely with members of the general public.
- Skill in the use of personal computers and automated systems.
- May be assigned to work in a variety of different departmental or divisional operations.
- May be expected to perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, employees, vendors, contractors, City Officials and the general public.
- Must provide a high level of customer service by being courteous, responsive, respectful and helpful in all interactions with staff, superiors and the general public.
- Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
- Must follow and comply with City rules and policies.

The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; crawl, stoop, bend and kneel for prolonged periods; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Work frequently requires climbing, balancing on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, reaching with hands and arms in front of body and overhead, and using hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work frequently exposes employee to extreme weather conditions, loud noise, vibrations, dust, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and exhaust fumes.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. and a minimum of two (2) years of City service maintenance and repair work experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,
and procedure manuals. - Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, contractors, temporary employees, City Officials, and the general public.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out supervisor's instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to effectively maintain positive and responsive working relations with other employees, departments and the general public.
LICENSE, CERTIFCIATION, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year from time of appointment, a valid State of Ohio Class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
