The Shenandoah Valley Soil & Water Conservation District (SVSWCD) has an opening for a full time Animal Waste Conservation Planer. The Conservation Planner is responsible for performing a wide range of technical and administrative duties that pertain to the implementation of the Sustainable Chesapeake Working with Small Animal Feeding Operations Project. The position will focus on development of comprehensive conservation plans and providing technical assistance for land and water restoration projects on livestock operations. In addition, duties will include assisting with the implementation of conservation plans and associated conservation practices. This position is a grant funded position currently funded through 6/30/2028. Applicants must have a degree in soil conservation or a related agricultural or natural resource discipline. Or applicants must have a combination of education and/or experience in the field of soil conservation, natural resource management, agriculture or related discipline. Applicant must also have experience dealing with animal waste nutrient management planning and implementation, waste management evaluation and planning and understanding of basic agronomic principles. Requirements for the position include: proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, the ability to work independently and in a team environment, multitask, prioritize, be a self-starter, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The ideal applicant will also have knowledge of non-point source pollution control activities, agricultural operations, soil and water conservation issues, and agricultural best management practices. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a federal background check. Hiring range: $40,000-$55,000 commensurate with experience and abilities.
