Job Description Summary

Demonstrates quality of teaching, quality of research and scholarly activity, quality of professional, University, and community service, and professional conduct. Must have experience and credentials as outlined in academic unit guidelines for Assistant Professor.    


Faculty of Instruction is a full-time non-tenure track (NTT) faculty member with credentials in an academic discipline. The primary purpose of such a position is to teach in a classroom, laboratory or other instructional setting in support of the University’s degree, certificate, and/or licensure programs.


Job Description

Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement Requirements

The University of Akron has an opening for a Full-Time, Non-Tenure Track position in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (EEET) program. The selected applicant will develop and teach engineering technology courses and associated laboratories commencing in the Spring or Fall 2024 semester. Functions of this position also include student recruitment; professional development and service; course, and program assessments for ongoing ABET accreditation; building relationships with industry and other educational institutions.


Additional Position Information:

Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree is required. At least one of the applicant’s degrees must be in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field from an ABET accredited program. Applicants must demonstrate a strong technical background and ability to teach multiple courses offered in the program. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills. At least three years of verifiable industrial experience.


Preferred Qualifications: Significant work experience in one or more fields of the electrical/electronic industry. A vision and enthusiasm for teaching and service in an undergraduate Engineering Technology Environment. Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Embedded Systems, Communications, Controls, Circuit Design, Biomedical Instrumentation, Power, or Circuit Manufacturing. Well-networked within the NE Ohio regional industry. Ohio Professional Engineering registration. Previous college level teaching and ABET accreditation experience.

Compensation: The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
